The 22 Major Cards in Tarot

Anyone who has a smattering of knowledge about the Tarot has heard of the Major cards or Major Arcana as some people prefer to call them. But what are they? The major cards are 22 archetypal symbols which relate to human nature. Mankind has become aware of these absolute truths in every culture throughout history.

Mankind may not have always depicted them as drawings on paper or parchment as we see them in the Tarot, for often we find equivalent symbols depicted via sculpture, music, theatre or dance. They are part of man’s consciousness. We will always rediscover them, for such truths surface despite us, as they are an intrinsic part of our nature.

During a reading having a large number of major cards appear in your spread will indicate a period of transition and important adjustment in your life.  The placement of the cards will signify whether this is from the past, present or future.

Some people first experience this change through external circumstances, or situations which they feel they have no control over.  Other people will experience this change as a time of deep contemplation, meditation and apparent non activity.

The 56
minor cards of tarot then inter-relate with the major cards within the spread signifying how the individual reacts to these universal truths.
